We recently rescued an 8 month old weimaraner named Otis. We also have a Rhodesian Ridgeback - Maxwell. We are new to the Weimaraner breed and we are desperately trying to understand and work with him. Otis is very loving and affectionate, he gets along great with our Ridgeback and from what we have been told by several people he is among the calmest Weimaraners people have encountered. With all of that being said we are having serious issues with Otis's obsession with balls - mainly tennis balls, once he has a ball he is relentless about trying to get someone, anyone to continually throw the ball. He brings it to my husband and I repeatedly trying to put it in our laps, and in our hands - if we throw the ball the cycle could continue for hours. If we don't throw the ball he will not leave us alone, he will get to a point where he will paw at us, stand on our laps, sit and stare at us - with the saddest eyes in the world - until we play with him and the ball.
We bring him to Doggie Daycare 3 days a week - my husband plays out in the yard with him everyother day - he and Max (my Ridgeback) play together alot of the time - but this puppy is tireless. What do we do to stop the obsessive behavior?
Thanks in advance for ANY tips and tricks.
Liza
